MULTIPLE MYELOMA

A clonal neoplasm arising from plasma cells .Tumours may arise in bone marrow or other organs and get transplanted to other sites .

Causes-

1) Genetic predisposition
2) Oncogenic viruses
3) Chronic antigenic stimulation or inflammation

Symptoms

1) Bone pain
2) Pathological fractures
3) Bony swelling
4) Progressive anemia
5) Recurrent respiratory infections
6) Herpes zoster ,renal abnormalities

Investigatios

1) Complete blood count
2) Bone marrow examination
 
Therapeutic considerations

1) Iron should be taken regularly to combat anemia
2) Vit-C use is encouraged to prevent infection
3) Fresh fruits and vegetables are used to protect the organs
4) If patient is receiving chemotherapy drugs care should be taken to avoid its side effects by drinking more water and consuming more milk and yoghurt .
