FOOD ALLERGIES

It is the immune response to certain food materials. It is the leading cause of most undiagnosed symptoms.

Cause


1) Regular consumption of a limited number of foods
2) Hidden ingredients in processed foods
3) Food additives
4) Medicinal drugs added to foods
5) Genetic manipulation of food which cross react with normal tissues
6) Impaired digestion – due to less acids or digestive enzymes, or leaky gut
7) Food allergy also has got genetic cause

Symptoms


1) Gastrointestinal – canker sores, celiac disease, chronic diarrhea, duodenal ulcer, gastritis, irritable colon, malabsoption, ulcerative colitis
2) Genito-urinary – bedwetting, chronic bladder infections, nephrosis, chronic infections
3) Mental – anxiety, depression, hyperactivity, inability to concentrate, mental confusion, seizures
4) Respiratory – asthma, chronic bronchitis, wheezing
5) Skin – acne, eczema, itching, headache

Therapeutic approach


1) Avoid identified allergens
2) Rotate diet until sensitivity decreases
3) Re-establish healthy bowel microflora – healthy flora suppresses toxic microbes
4) Healing damaged gut – so that leaky gut phenomenon do not occur

Ayurveda approach


According to ayurveda, this is predominantly PITTA and VATA disorder. If ayurvedic medicines are taken with diet pattern changes and exercises, one can easily cure food allergy. Therefore ayurvedic medicines are strongly recommended for this problem.
