BRONCHITIS

It is an inflammatory process confined to the bronchi and sometimes to bronchioli. It does not extend much to the surrounding pulmonary parenchyma.

What Causes Bronchitis


1) Commonly develops as a complication of upper respiratory tract infection like
a) Influenza, b) Measles, c) other Infections
2) Regular exposure to cold
3) Inhalation of irritant gases
4) Allergic food (fish, peanuts, soy, milk etc.)
5) Disease is common in two extreme age groups (children & old people)
6) Disease is also common in patients having general debility and congestive cardiac failure

 Symptoms / Signs of Bronchitis


1) Cough
2) Tightness in chest
3) Wheezy respiration
4) Retrosternal discomfort or pain (chest pain)

Investigations for Bronchitis


1) Blood routine test
2) Chest X-ray
3) Sputum examination

Home remedies for Bronchitis


1) Rest and proper hydration
2) Local fomentation with hot pads over chest area
3) Mint leaf juice
4) Treat the underlying cause like measles
5) Keep the patient warm and dry
