PNEUMONIA

Inflammation of the lungs with exudation (collection of fluid) and consolidation (solidification). Dominantly following types of pneumonia are seen : – 
1) Aspiration pneumonia – due to aspiration of foreign material into the lung
2) Bacterial pneumonia – staphylococci, streptococci
3) Viral pneumonia – adeno, influenza
4) Mycoplasmal pneumonia

Symptoms of Pneumonia


1) Sudden onset of shaking, chills, fever and chest pain
2) Yellow mucopurulent sputum
3) Headache and malaise

Causes of Pneumonia


1) Low immunity
2) Cigarette smoke and noxious fumes
3) Impaired consciousness (which allows aspiration)
4) Infections

Investigations for Pneumonia


1) X-ray chest is considered as confirmative
2) In case of infections, WBC count is increased

Therapeutic approach for Pneumonia


1) Vit-C demand is more during pneumonia*
2) Vit-A is very valuable in children*
3) Mustard poultice
4) Massage
5) Glycyrrhiza glabra
6) Lobelia inflata

 Ayurveda approach
 
  According to ayurveda this is predominantly a KAPHA & VATA disorder. It can be completely cured with the help of ayurvedic medicines and diet.Therefore, ayurvedic treatment is strongly recommended here.
