CHRONIC RENAL FAILURE

It is a common kidney problem where, there is deterioration of renal function resulting in accumulation of end products of nitrogen metabolism.

Causes


1) Chronic glomerulonephritis
2) Chronic interstitial nephropathy
3) Hypertensive renal disorders
4) Diabetic nephropathy
5) Hereditary renal disorders
6) Metabolic disorders like gout
7) Other like analgesic nephropathy etc.

Symptoms


1) Nocturia
2) Anemia
3) Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain
4) Confusion
5) Increased blood pressure
6) Amenorrhoea, impotence
7) Weight loss, fatigue

Investigation


1) Blood urea levels
2) Serum creatinine levels
3) Hemogram
4) Ultrasonography
5) Blood sugar levels

Treatment


1) Diet protein control – low protein diet slows the progression of disease
2) Sodium restriction – in case of hypertension, it should be restricted, whereas in case of postural hypotention, it should be given in adequate amount
3) Water intake should be controlled i.e., 500 ml more over the urine output is generally given
4) Phosphate restriction
5) Vit -D helps*
6) Iron also is useful*
7) Vit- C is useful*

Ayurveda approach


According to ayurveda, this is a predominantly KAPHA and VATA disorder. But if ayurvedic medicines are taken with a strict diet regime, can cure the patient completely from this problem. Therefore, ayurvedic medicines are strongly recommended for this problem.
