CYSTITIS – URETHRAL SYNDROME

It is defined as the presence of pathogenic bacteria in the bladder or lower urinary tract with its associated consequences.

Facts


1) It is very common in young women
2) During pregnancy, the risk is more
3) In males, it is mostly associated with prostate hypertrophy

Causes


1) The commonest organism is Escherichia coli, other common organisms are Klebsiella pneumonia and Proteus sp.
2) In patients with long standing urinary catheters fungal infection is very common

Symptoms


1) Nocturia
2) Urgency to pass urine
3) Burning while passing urine
4) Frequency to pass urine increases
5) Sometimes there is pain while passing urine

Therapeutic consideration


1) Adequate fluid intake which helps to flush bacteria
2) Carrot juice
3) Vit -C*
4) Avoid spicy food, green chilly, alcohol, smoking
5) Local fomentation over lower abdomen helps
6) Cucumber juice, fresh lemon juice also helps

Ayurveda approach


According to ayurveda, this is  predominantly a PITTA disorder. But if, ayurvedic treatment is taken with a particular diet regime, it can cure this problem completely. Therefore, ayurvedic medicines are strongly recommended for this problem.
