LEUCORRHOEA

It is defined as an excessive normal vaginal discharge.



Causes of Leucorrhoea

Physiological causes
1) During puberty
2) Around ovulation
3) Pregnancy
4) Sexual excitement

Cervical causes 
1) Cervical erosion
2) Chronic cervicitis
3) Mucous polyp
4) Ectopion

Vaginal causes
1) Chronic pelvic inflammation
2) Use of contraceptive pill

Symptoms 
of Leucorrhoea

1) Excess secretion is evident from persistent vulval moistness or staining of the undergarments
2) Some patients may complain of weakness and low back pain

Investigations


1) Microscopic examination of the discharge to find out pus cells, organisms
2) Ultrasonography to rule out pelvic causes

Therapeutic considerations


1) Improvement of general health with the help of increased nutrition and regular exercises
2) Local hygiene has to be maintained meticulously
3) Pills users may have to stop pill temporarily if symptom is much annoying
4) Cervical and vaginal causes need to be treated
5) Anxiety should be removed by relaxation techniques and meditation
