OVARIAN CYST DISEASE

It is a syndrome manifested by amenorrhoea, hirsuitism and obesity associated with enlarged polycystic ovaries.

Causes


1) Idiopathic – unknown cause
2) Hereditary – there is some family history of ovarian cyst disease
3) Obesity
4) Diet and medication during pregnancy – a child girl when exposed to hormone inside womb is more prone to this problem.

Symptoms


1) Increasing obesity
2) Menstrual abnormalities like oligomenorrhoea
3) Infertility
4) Hirsuitism (facial hairs)

Investigations


1) Ultrasonography of abdomen and pelvis, trans-vaginal sonography if patient is obese
2) Serum leuteinizing hormone

Therapeutic considerations


1) Weight loss – obese patient has to lose weight
2) Treat diabetes if there
3) Regular exercises has to be done
4) Avoid food items containing sex hormones especially androgens

Ayurveda approach

According to ayurveda, it is VATA & KAPHA disorder and can be managed very
well with ayurvedic medicines and diet regime. Ayurvedic medicines are strongly recommended.
