PROSTATE HYPERPLASIA

Benign enlargement of the prostate usually occurs in men over fifty years. Nowadays, also occurs in a younger age.

Causes


1) The hormone theory – as the age advances the male hormone diminishes, while the quantity of oestrogenic hormone is not decreased equally. So predominance of oestrogenic hormone is blamed
2) Neoplastic theory – it says that the enlargement is due to benign neoplasm and can be called as fibro-myo-adenoma

Symptoms


1) Frequency to pass urine increases, mostly it is at night
2) Urgency to pass urine
3) Dribbling micturation
4) Difficulty in passing urine
5) Pain while passing urine
6) Retention of urine
7) Blood in urine

Investigation


Ultrasonography confirms the diagnosis

Therapeutic consideration


1) Hot fomentation of lower abdomen reduces congestion and gives relief
2) Sometimes infection of urinary tract worsens the symptoms, drinking more water before 7 pm help flush out infection
3) Constipation increases the symptoms of prostate hyperplasia, so diet to relieve constipation helps
4) Fresh vegetables, fruits reduce benign growth due to its antioxidant properties
5) Tribulus terrestris – fruits are proven to have properties to reduce the symptoms

Ayurveda approach


According to ayurveda, this problem occurs predominantly due to VATA disorder and involvement of MAMSA DHATU and causes ageing. But if ayurvedic medicines are taken with a diet regime and regular exercises, can cure this problem completely. Therefore, ayurvedic medicines are strongly recommended for this problem.
